The Staten Island Museum is is a cool and air-conditioned space to escape the heat and enjoy some great exhibits during the hot New York City summer. The Museum is open Wednesday-Sunday from 11am-5pm. Drinking fountains are also available to museum guests.

Our open-air art market platforms over 100 local artists and craftspeople from across Staten Island. The museum’s front lawn transforms into an outdoor gallery, allowing you to view and purchase paintings, ceramics, prints, jewelry and more from the variety of local vendors. Breakdown highlights the vibrancy of decay through contemporary artwork, objects from the museum’s collection, and scientific innovations in the curious world of decomposition. This interdisciplinary exhibition explores notions of time, waste, and the in-between.

NOW EXTENDED

In 1951, Staten Island made history when a breakthrough treatment for tuberculosis was tested at Sea View Hospital. Taking Care highlights the groundbreaking work, lives, and legacy of the Black nursing staff, who came to be known as the “Black Angels.”
